Mitch was inducted into the AOA Medical Honor Society. The two of us were able to go to a banquet at the Jewish Hospital downtown (thanks Gabe and Katie for watching our girls!). The banquet was really nice and the food was delicious. The best steak I've ever had! Only 12 students from Mitch's class were invited. 15 more will be inducted next year. When we were talking with doctors there they were impressed to hear Mitch was a junior. We sat with Mitch's friend Aaron and his wife Meg, along with several surgeons and their wives. Mitch noticed that the doctors treated the students as equals, which was a nice change from their rotations. The doctors that attended are all AOA members. It was pretty awesome to be there and it's a huge accomplishment for Mitch.
Each inductee was introduced and given a "certificate." When being introduced they announced the person that accompanied each person to the banquet. I loved that some were accompanied by their moms! They gave each person a fake certificate since the official one comes in the mail when you register. After receiving the certificate, each person signs a book for the Louisville chapter of the AOA. The first signature in the book is apparently a well-known doctor (I had no idea who they were talking about). After everyone was announced all of the inductees stood and repeated an oath. There were 3rd and 4th year students, a few residents, and a couple of doctors that were inducted.
It was such a nice evening! I am so proud of all of the hard work that Mitch has put into medical school. He's currently on his psych rotation, which happens to be his last rotation of 3rd year. Yay! This next year will be filled with residency applications, interviews, step 2 boards, rotations, residency match and finally graduation. It's crazy to think that a year from now we'll be moving on to the next chapter of our lives!
Oh wow!!! I am so terrible about keeping up haha :)
