We had our lay over in Pheonix which ended up being four hours. A little long with a toddler. We walked around a lot! She was great though. We arrived in Salt Lake that afternoon and were pretty worn out from traveling. We were able to just hang out that night, but the next day we jumped into everything we had planned! Unfortunately, by Tuesday night Makenzie was really sick. We experienced our first all nighter of throwing up. Not a fun night for Makenzie, me or Katelin. Thanks Kate for helping out! Makenzie was sick for a couple of days and then started to feel better. But once she had that out of her system she was hit with a really bad cold. We ended up not doing everything we had planned so she could relax and get feeling better. That's ok though, we'll be back again soon.
Mitch had his block exam on December 17 (he did great on his exam by the way!) and wasn't able to come with Makenzie and I. He arrived in Utah on the 19th. Our brother-in-law picked him up as he was driving from Boston to Salt Lake. The day before Mitch's exam there was a freeze in Kentucky. Everything had a layer of ice about a half inch thick. School was cancelled so Mitch tried to study at home. I say tried because bad thing #2 happened. Our townhouse had another leak. This time it was in our back room with the fireplace. That just happens to be the room where our big Christmas tree was with all of our Christmas presents. The leak was above my craft desk so Mitch spent a lot of time moving all of my stuff and the desk. The maintenance said they couldn't do anything about the leak until the ice was gone. Mitch was worried about leaving for Utah with the leak going on so he bought a 36 gallon tub to stick under the ceiling to catch the water and we had our friend check it when she checked on our cat.
We were excited to have Mitch join us in Utah. Makenzie missed her daddy. He was able to be there for a week before we headed back to Kentucky. I had taken 2 1/2 weeks off work and needed to head back. We flew back to Louisville on Sunday, December 26th. A storm was coming into Salt Lake which delayed our flight by 20 minutes (not bad thing #3). We had our lay over in Chicago and our second flight was also delayed by 20 minutes or so. We ended up not arriving into Louisville until like 12:30 am. This is when bad thing #3 happened. They lost one of our four checked bags. And this bag happened to contain our brand new kindle. Not a good thing to loose. So we reported our bag lost and headed home. Thank you Bryce for picking us up so late!
Good news is we made it home safely, Makenzie is healthy again, our roof has been fixed and we are now waiting for them to fix the ceiling and carpet, and Southwest airlines found our bag the next day (they gave us a travel voucher for the trouble).
